Our History
Swingtown baseball was founded over 17 years ago by  1999 American League All-Star, Ron Coomer and former University of Notre Dame player and coach, John Flanagan.

Ron is a former Major League player for the Minnesota Twins, Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees & Los Angeles Dodgers. He was selected to the 1999 American League All-Star team as a Minnesota Twin. Ron began his professional playing career in 1987 after being selected in the 12th Round of the Major League Baseball Draft out of Taft Junior College where he also earned California Junior College Player of the Year. Ron spent eight-and-a-half seasons in the minor leagues with three different organizations prior to making his Major League debut with the Minnesota Twins on August 1, 1995. Ron worked his way through the minor league systems of the Oakland A's, Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers through his determination, work ethic and unwavering belief in his ability to be a successful Major League baseball player.

It was during Ron’s minor league career that he and his lifelong friend, John Flanagan, developed the concept for and opened C.F. Swingtown Baseball Academy. Ron and John founded C.F. Swingtown with the mission to provide opportunities for the serious baseball players to enhance his physical and mental baseball skills.

Ron was born and raised on the Southwest side of Chicago. He attended Lockport High School where his illustrious baseball career began after being named a First Team All-Illinois selection his senior year. Ron continued his on-field success through college and the minor leagues, and enjoyed a career year in 1997 with the Twins where he set career marks for average (.298) and RBI (85). He also led the American League in hitting against lefties (.459), as well as, finishing third among league third basemen with a .966 fielding percentage.

Ron brings an extensive list of intangibles to Swingtown. Including his vast network of baseball contacts within Major League Baseball, College Baseball, Major league Scouting network, the Major League Baseball Players Association, the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association and the national sports media, including Fox Sport Net, Mouthpiecesports.com, & Fox Chicago.
